What is Applied Scholastics?

Applied Scholastics came into being in the late 1960's when a group of educators in the Los Angeles area who had learned of Hubbard's Study Technology, started applying it in their classrooms and saw remarkable results. As a consequence, people trained in Study Technology then set up their own schools under license from Applied Scholastics International, the organization that was granted the rights to use and license the trademarks relating to Hubbard's educational data for use in secular fields.
Across the world today, there are close to 700 educational organizations now licensed by Applied Scholastics. These include tutoring centers, public and private schools, employee training programs, colleges, English as a Second Language (ESL) Schools and Adult Education programs. Results over the past 30 years have been documented which you are welcome to look at when you visit the school.
In 1973, Applied Scholastics developed a phonics-based reading program for use by its tutoring centers and it has continued to be used across the world in English-speaking countries since that time. It resulted in consistent results, for example: an average increase of reading age improvement of 1.29 years after 10 hours of instruction in one inner city program in London; and 2.4 years improvement after 24 hours of instruction in a Los Angeles public school. In recent years, this program was developed further to facilitate its implementation in any school classroom, undergoing extensive piloting over a period of two years closely supervised by an award winning California Professor of English. This formed the basis of the new reading program just implemented.
Applied Scholastics International is a non-profit, public benefit organization formed in 1972 by educators from colleges, universities, and both public and private schools. The mission of Applied Scholastics is to provide effective education services and materials that help people learn how to learn and thereby work effectively to achieve their goals and realize their full potential.
In countries throughout the world, from urban centers in Europe and America to the townships of South Africa, Applied Scholastics is helping both children and adults learn how to learn, utilizing methods that have proven to be effective at all levels of educational development.
